Dowling Community Garden Celebration

Dowling Community Garden Celebration

Location: 46th Avenue South and East 39th Street

Returning to the garden Saturday, there was a definite party vibe in the air! It was the celebration of the 75th year of the garden, originally started as a Victory Garden. There’s only one other continuously tended Victory Garden, in Boston – they only grow ornamental flowers there (not that there’s anything wrong with that.) Our own Victory Garden, however, features tons of veggies as well! In fact, part of Saturday’s celebration included a very delicious tomato tasting and drawings for baskets of veggies.

There were tours of the gardens, which include plots tended by 250 gardeners, speeches by the principal of Dowling school, proclamations by local politicians (including Minneapolis mayor, Jacob Frey), and even a round of Happy Birthday! It was a lovely celebration of this truly unique feature in our neighborhood. And go see it for yourself…it’s gorgeous!
