Location: Coldwater Spring

Within the southern boundary of Longfellow lies Coldwater Spring, a part of the National River and Recreation Area. This area served as an important crossroads for Native Americans and traders using the river for commerce and travel.

U.S. soldiers camped at this site while Fort Snelling was being constructed, making it the first American settlement in Minnesota. The spring provided water to the fort. This is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city without going too far.
