War zone, or East Lake Street? The end of a mural

IMG_2188

Today around 9 am the wrecking crew started their engines. This pile of rubble is all that remains of the mural that graced the side of the MIGIZI building at 3123 East Lake Street since 1999 (see January 27th photo). The rest of the building will be down by the end of the day Friday. A lot of lost history on this site.

The entrance to the new Walgreens will be right about where the mural was. When you cross the threshold, remember The Language of Hope mural, and before it, Wonderland Amusement Park, that operated there from 1905-1911. Then think back to the 1800s, when this area was farmland, and before that, native oak savanna and prairie. My musings amid the rubble.
