This is a follow-up to my March 5 image of a fire at the former service station on the northwest corner of 34th and Minnehaha Avenue. About a month after the conflagration, Evan-Amos Smith purchased the building, and, in collaboration with his mom, Nichole Sue Smith, began to repair, renovate, and decorate it.
The Happy Face Space is envisioned as a gallery and event space, and is set to open after January 1st. Evan is an artist and his mom a community activist – we will definitely hear more from them in the future! (Bonus points if you know which building the Happy Face originally graced).
